John Wesley Honors College

Scholar Spotlight: Charlie Hurlocker

Hurlocker, Charlie

by Janice Murray, John Wesley Scholar, Class of 2016

Meet Charlie Hurlocker, a freshman in the HC who’s originally from Buffalo, New York (he was born there), but now calls Kokomo home.

He’s majoring in both Christian Ministries and Philosophy/Theology, a calling he uncovered while competing in political debates during high school and realizing that politics is not his niche.

His hobbies include reading works of philosophy and theology for fun (yep, he’s in the right major!) and relaxing via sports, card games, and playing with mechanical puzzles (i.e., Rubik’s cubes).

He also enjoys serving in the Marion area. If you have ideas for service you’d like to see the HC sponsor, let him know—he’s on the HCSA Service Committee (be quick about it, though—HCSA is working to set up events now). Even if you don’t have an idea in this area, he would love to talk to you!

His favorite aspects of the Honors College are the intelligent conversations that result from being surrounded by like-minded people.

Maybe you could start the conversation by asking him about political debate? Did you know his high school team advanced to the national level? He’s still involved with some high school teams!

Or maybe you could ask him about the game for which he made the global rankings?

Make sure to look for him around the HC and say hi!
