John Wesley Honors College

A Welcome from the HCSA President

Sneden, Melia 2The Honors College Student Association (HCSA) is a student-run organization that exists to enrich and expand the living and learning experiences of the John Wesley Honors College at Indiana Wesleyan University. All students in the Honors College are members of the HCSA and are encouraged to take part in its activities. We hope you’ll get involved and even consider running as a freshman senator in the fall.

Welcome to the John Wesley Honors College! I am SO excited that you have joined our wonderful community and can’t wait to meet each and every one of you. I hope that you will feel right at home when you come in September. One of the many great things about the Honors College is that it provides you with a community of growth, support, encouragement, and fun the moment you arrive on campus.

I cannot imagine my college experience without the JWHC. As a freshman, I arrived not knowing much about IWU. Coming from Michigan, I was the first in my family to move out of state and attend a school where I barely knew a soul. The Honors College provided me with a true home away from home. The welcoming spirit of my fellow classmates, the other Honors students, and the brilliant and kind faculty helped my transition to college in an integral way. In every situation, the community of the Honors College has provided me with holistic, challenging, and fun-filled experiences.

In college, you are stretched in every direction—spiritually, academically, relationally. You face many decisions regarding what your academic path is to be, what activities you choose to be involved in, and what kind of person you want to become. What is wonderful about the Honors College is that it incorporates every aspect of that growth. The courses that you take challenge you to think not just in terms of academics, but in terms of your whole self. Your Christian walk will be tempered, stretched, and strengthened by the courses as they encourage you to orient yourself around Christ, our Cornerstone.

College is also a time to build relationships (many of which will become lifelong) with faculty and staff as well as your peers. One great way to build relationships with Honors College students is to take part in the Honors College Student Association (HCSA). Our student-run organization provides various social, academic, and spiritual events for the JWHC community, aiding the growth of these relationships.

Be encouraged! You are about to embark on an amazing journey. Chances are, God will take these next four years and transform them into an experience you would never expect. Hold on to Him, and He will guide you into something immeasurably more than all you could ask or imagine.

See you soon!
